Abstract The goal of this study is to show the effect of Liraglutide on altered renal function associated with STZ-induced DM and to reveal its mechanism through its effect on expression of Connective tissue growth factor and Bone morphogenetic protein-7 in renal tissue. The results suggest that Liraglutide as GLP-1 analogue may be a promising platform in the treatment of DM and in protection against diabetic nephropathy as it normalized urinary albuminuria and expression of renal CTGF and BMP-7 in diabetic rats in parallel with reducing blood glucose level. Particular attention has to be paid to extend our data to all the class of drugs acting on the GLP-1 system and its clinical efficacy should be tested in human trial. |
