Abstract The present study is an attempt to investigate age related changes in the chemical composition of the pheromone glands and the ultrastructure of the neurosecretory cells in the pars intercerebralis and subesophageal zones of female S. littoralis.VI. 1. Gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GCMS)analyses of female S. littoralis pheromone gland extracts The crude extracts of pheromone gland components of D0v (newly emerged virgin moths), D1v (1-day-old), D2v (2-day-old), D3v (3-day-old)virgin moths, and D3m (3-day-old mated females) S. littoralis were analyzed by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Altogether,54 compounds were identified in the pheromone gland extracts of the Egyptian strain of S. littorals females. The total number of components identified at D0v, D1v, D2v, D3v and D3m age groups were 35, 46, 33, 29, and 29 compounds, respectively. The 54 compounds were classified according to their chemical nature and formula as the number of carbon atoms and the functional group to 1 ketone, 1 acetate, 2 fatty acids, 3 esters, 6 aldehydes, 12 alcohols and 29 hydrocarbons. The components detected varied according to the female moth age categories. |
