Abstract The present work is assigned to study the corrosion behaviour of copper in 8 M H3PO4 acid solution and the inhibiting effect of some aprotic solvents. The inhibition action of four aprotic solvents (Dimethyl sulphoxide DMSO, Dimethyl formamide DMF, Dioxane and Formamide) on the electropolishing of copper in H3PO4 acid has been investigated by galvanostatic polarization measurements. Aprotic solvents have high dipole moment and high dielectric constant. These solvents do not play as hydrogen donors. The negative center of charge density is generally on raise basic atoms N or O atom, which is largely bare for intermolecular interactions with acidic or positive centers have strongest inhibitive effect ranging from 8-46%. Potentiodynamic polarization technique was used as a second method to study the inhibiting effect of the used solvents. from these results it was found that these extracts act as mixed type inhibitors. Also, impedance spectroscopy measurements and electrochemical frequency modulation measurements were used. Some thermodynamic parameters are computed and discussed. Also, electrochemical frequency modulation measurements. The obtained results of all methods are in good agreement. |
