Abstract Orobanche crenata Forsk. is a root parasitic plant that belongs to family Orobanchaceae and depends completely on some plants as Vicia faba, tobacco and other solanaceous plants to maintain carbohydrates and minerals. The plant was studied macro and microscopically for its identification and recognition of botanical features to prevent adulteration in part I of thesis. In part II, the powdered plants were subjected to methanolic extraction then fractionated by some solvents to give different solvent fractions. These fractions were investigated for isolation of many compounds which were identified by different spectroscopic tools. Finally, the total methanolic extract, different fraction and some isolated compounds were screened for some biological activities and some fractions exhibited positive results in part III. The thesis consists of 237 pages and contains 37 tables, 78 figures and 3 schemes. |
