Abstract

The present work was achieved during 2015 and 2016 to investigate the effect of dormex, linseed oil and castor oil on the vegetative growth and the yield of Superior grapevines under Minia Governorate conditions. Vines were pruned at the last week of December leaving 84 buds per vine. The experimental design was (CRBD). Dormex was used at 2% or 4%, linseed oil and castor oil at 3% as well as their combinations. Spraying the above chemical solution was carried out at the first week of January. The following data were registered annually, the beginning and ending of bud opening, the time elapsed for bud opening, the percentage of (bud opening, fruiting and dormant buds), mean shoot length, number of leaves per shoot, leaf area, can thickness, wood ripening coefficient, weight of old pruning wood, measurement of plant pigments and leaf content from N, P, K and Mg, the percentage of berry setting, number of cluster per vine, weight of cluster, yield per vine, length and width of cluster, weight of 100 berries, berry dimensions, percentage of (shot berries, T.S.S., total acidity, reducing sugars).
The most important results could be summarized as follows
-All treatments had a positive effect in advancing bud break of Superior grapevines. Significant differences were existed on enhancing bud opening as compared with the control.
-Dormex in this connection at 2% or 4% either used separately or in combinations with others is the more effective treatment in enhancing bud’s break.
-leaf area and the leaf content from chlorophyll a and b as well as total chlorophylls and total carotenoids are higher than that of the check (control). Similar trend was noticed concerning its content from N, P, K and Mg. Treatments including dormex are of more effective in increasing the prementioned parameters than other treatments.
-Treatments including Dormex, linseed oil and castor oil (almostly) surpassed the control concerning their effect on main shoot length, cane thickness, wood weight and wood ripening coefficient. Dormex treatments seem to be the best one in this respect, either used solely or combined with other treatments.
-Spraying superior grapevines with Dormex at 2 or 4 %, linseed oil and castor oil at 3% had significantly increased the percentage of initial berry set, cluster weight and the yield as compared with the control. The dormex was more effective in its influence on the three above parameters followed by linseed oil then castor oil. These used chemicals decreased significantly the percentage of shot berries per cluster as compared with the control.
-Berry weight and dimensions were greatly influenced by using Dormex and linseed oil. Castor oil seems to be of negligible effect on these berry characters. In the same time, all treatments reduced the acidity of the juice of Superior grape berries than the control.
Finally, spraying Superior grapevines with dormex at 2% or 4% either separately or in combination with linseed oil at 3% is recommended under the experimental conditions and resembling regions to increase the yield per vine and improving berries quality.
