Abstract
There is a lack of reliable data concerning the epidemiology and etiology of MDS due to difficulties in diagnosis and classification,which have made large-scale population-based studies problematic.Childhood MDS is extremely rare (incidence rate = 0.01/100,000),representing 4% of all pediatric hematological cancers.Many factors include, the age of patient, the number and the severity of the cytopenia and the initial chromosomal aberration affect on patients outcome.In the light of this, the present work aimed to detect chromosomal aberration in MDS patients by Conventional Cytogenetic Analysis technique in order to study the impact of these chromosomal aberration on the disease.In this study, BM samples were obtained from 20 patients who diagnosed as MDS. They were attending Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Unit of Tanta University Hospitals. All patients were children, their ages ranged from 2 to 12 years.
