Abstract TBI is a progressive disorder, in which the primary injury initiates a complex sequence of biochemical and metabolic changes that lead to progressive tissue damage and cell death. These secondary events offer opportunities for therapeutic intervention. Multiple pathophysiological mechanisms are active in this complex disorder, with contusions, diffuse axonal injury, hemorrhage, and systemic insults occurring to varying degrees. |
