Abstract Erectile dysfunction (ED) is defined as failure of sufficient penile rigidity for sexual intercourse or the persistent inability to obtain and maintain an erection sufficient to permit satisfactory sexual performance. Decreased libido and erectile dysfunction are common complaints of lepromatous patients. Leprosy (Hansen’s disease) is still an endemic disease, especially in Third World Countries. The disease affects the peripheral nerves, skin and multiple internal organs. There is great variability in the reported frequency of the testicular involvement in leprosy, ranging from 8% to 80%. Hypogonadism is indicated by low levels of testosterone which have been associated with lepromatous leprosy. Dysautonomia is observed in patients with lepromatous leprosy. Peripheral neurapathy is also usually associated. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence erectile dysfunction and to detect the prevalence of testicular dysfunction in males with leprosy. |
