Tourism industry has become one of the major industries round the world. It is not only because of the positive role it has in the social, cultural and economic sides, but also for being an effective industry helps in promoting small enterprises and other industries. In addition to the vital role of tourism in promoting the services’ sector e.g. transport, restaurants, hotels, etc., it also offers distinctive advantages involving maximising people’s well-being and entertainment, as well as enabling them to know new cultures and civilisations. On the other hand, tourism plays quite an important role in creating a kind of social and cultural compatibility, which results from the exchange of cultures, traditions and customs amongst countries. This proves the expectations of the American futurist John Nicebet, who postulated that the world economy in the twenty-first century will be led by some service industries, including the telecommunications industry, and travel and tourism industry. Problem of the Study:Dark tourism became one of the widespread patterns of tourism round the world. It represents a different aspect of tourists’ motivations in choosing their holiday destinations, as it represents the tourists who seek to visit places that are characterised by being exciting and bizarre. For instance, concentration camps in some European countries e.g. Poland and the areas of Jews genocides in Germany, as well as places of natural disasters e.g. tsunami disaster in East Asia, are some instances that have contributed significantly in creating dark tourism in these countries. Problem of the study can be mentioned in the two following points: The lack of books and periodicals that discussed dark tourism, despite of the existence of the different Egyptian tourism destinations that make up the tourism product for dark tourism in Egypt. Importance of the Study:This study is considered one of the most important studies for outlining the strategic marketing plan of dark tourism in Egypt, which will help in creating diversity in the Egyptian tourism product and consequently bringing out many advantages to the tourism sector in Egypt. Objectives of the Study: Identifying the concept of dark tourism. Identifying the categories of dark tourism.4- Hypotheses of the Study: This study depends merely on one hypothesis, which is creating a marketing strategy for dark tourism in Egypt will result in increasing tourists’ numbers in Egypt. Limitation of the study: Limitations of time: The study will be finished after determining the basic elements of the marketing strategy for promoting dark tourism in Egypt. Methodology of the Study: Theoretical Study:It includes all the related references to the subject of study ’dark tourism’ e.g. books, periodicals,theses,dissertations and internet websites. Plan of the study: This study consists of an introduction, which is presented as a brief summary of the tourism industry in general and its importance for Egypt in particular, followed by a preface to dark tourism. The study reached to some results which are:The existence of the Egyptian dark tourism product in many Egyptian sites.The uniqueness and high quality of dark tourism sites of attractions in Egypt.The study reached to some recommendations, which are: Recommendations of Travel Agencies in Egypt:The necessity of the existence of Egyptian travel agencies specialised in organising varied tourism programmes for the Egyptian dark tourism sites, depending on the variation of dark tourism programmes, determining the target market of dark tourism in Egypt and maximising the promotional campaigns. Recommendations of the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism:The Egyptian Tourism Board must organise campaigns for shedding light on the importance of dark tourism as a new trend in Egypt.There must be a successful co-operation between the Egyptian Tourism Board and the Egyptian Tourism Federation for identifying the target market of dark tourism and attracting it successfully.
