Abstract Inverted nipple describes a condition whereby a portion or the entire nipple is buried in the lactiferous duct. Congenital inverted nipples, which lack connective tissue and have hypoplastic lactiferous ducts, and fibrous bands at the nipple base are more commonly encountered than acquired inverted nipples, which are caused by breast infections, carcinoma, breast surgery or post traumatic . Inverted nipples cause many associated problems such as poor hygiene, breast feeding difficulties, repeated inflammation, psychological distress, and dissatisfaction with one’s appearance. |
