Abstract

The Mechanical properties of composites based on epoxy resin (ER) filled with metal powders (MP) and carbon nano fibers (CNF) have been studied. Due to wide spreading, using Diglycidyl Ether of Bisphenol A (DEGBA) and Diglycidyl Ether of Bisphenol F (DGEBF) in industrial application they used as a matrix in this work.
MP having different particle shapes was used as fillers such as (SiC, Black Carbon, Fummed Silica) are used as fillers. The composite preparation conditions allow the formation of a random distribution of metallic particles in the polymer matrix. CNF is one of the most useful filler materials in composites in long and short form, its major
Use being the manufacture of components in the aerospace, automotive, and leisure industries. CNF reinforced epoxy (C-E) composites filled with 3% MP were fabricated.
Materials added to the epoxy matrix help to improve operating properties of a composite. The matrix was filled with 3% MP then filled with a different ratios of (0,5,10,20,25,30,40) % long and short CNF, but epoxy was filled with a mixture of short CNF in ratio (5,10)% and constant 3% MP (Silicon Carbide SiC or black Carbon BC or Fummed Silica FS). The proposed methodology used throughout this study consists of mechanical tests followed by morphological microscopy study of the tested samples. This Methodology allows to study the damage evolution of the produced composite material and to understand which role the tensile tests are performed in the characteristic direction of the used CNFs reinforcement.
The MP and CNF were dispersed into the epoxy resin using a direct mixing method. Specimen Preparation and testing were carried out as per ASTM standards. The investigation reveals that, due to incorporation of nano additives in epoxy composite to some extent give encouraging results when compared with the neat epoxy. After a certain amount of addition of additives these properties do not get enhanced and in some cases on further addition of additives the properties get deteriorated.
