Abstract

Forensic identification of human means
establishing their individuality. Identification means
individualization or limiting forensic evidences to a
specific individual in the world. Prints are considered
as trusting and reliable tools in the field of
identification. Prints are promising innovative methods
for identification. The idea of prints is related to what is
called pattern recognition system. Simply it involves,
data collection, representation, feature extraction,
matching criteria, search methods and database
organization.
Finger prints, palm prints and palatal prints are
varieties of prints. The idea of forensic identification
depends mainly on comparing data base and available
data with each other either to confirm or exclude a
suspected person.
Identification is a challenging mission in cases
of mass disaster and acts of terrorism. Recognition of
palatal rugae pattern is an established confident way
used in the field of personal identification. The
anatomical position of the rugae inside the oral cavity
within the blanket of cheeks, lips and buccal pad of fat
keeps them protected from trauma and burns.
Regarding these factors, rugae can be used as a trusted
and reliable tool during forensic identification.
