Abstract Placenta previa exists when the placenta is inserted wholly or in part into the lower segment of the uterus.(8) The incidence of placenta previa at term is 0.5–2%. The incidence of placenta previa is much higher earlier in gestation, but most of these cases resolve, especially when detected in the first or second trimester (9). One of the most dramatic risk factors for placenta previa or accreta is clearly the presence of previous cesarean section. Although mothers with one previous cesarean had a 2.5-fold increase in the risk of previa, this number multiplied dramatically with increasing number of cesarean sections.(12,16) The aim of this study is to show the efficacy of first trimester placental localization in prediction of migration of low lying placenta in cases of previous cesarean section. The study was performed on 75 cases attending Elshatby Maternity university hospital for antenatal care. All patients had ultrasound examination by trans-abdominal and trans-vaginal routes during first visit at 11-14 weeks and second visit at 24-32 weeks of gestation. |
