Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of certain measurements obtained by CBCT images and compare it with the Panoramic X-ray to determine the type of radiograph that gives the most reliable forensic dental features that can be used for personal identification, and also determine the type of radiograph that gives the accurate type, size, and site of maxillofacial abnormalities. Also, to compare measurement of bone density by CBCT and Panoramic x-ray.14 Patients having maxillofacial abnormality with 12 impacted third molars, and 7 cysts seeking surgical removal of impacted third molar tooth or a cyst were selected for this study from the outpatient clinic in the Oral and Maxillofacial Department, Faculty of Dentistry, Mansoura University and done CBCT and panoramic x-ray. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that CBCT is an effective method to be used for personal identification, for accurate preoperative determining of size, site, and type of maxillofacial abnormalities, and also for accurate measuring of bone density 3 and 6 months after surgical removal of impacted third molars or cystic lesions. |
