Abstract

Back ground: Introduction: Adult flatfoot refers to a deformity that develops after skeletal maturity is reached. There are numerous causes of acquired adult flatfoot, including fracture or dislocation, tendon laceration, tarsal coalition, arthritis, neuroarthropathy, neurologic weakness, and iatrogenic causes. The most common cause of acquired adult flatfoot is posterior tibial tendon dysfunction. Aim of the work: The aim of this work is to spotlight on acquired flat foot in adults and their recent management. Methodology: PTTD is the most common cause of the adult acquired flatfoot. Dysfunction of the posterior tibial tendon is typically a unilateral condition caused by pathologic changes within the tendon. The deformity is usually progressive and results in a flexible to rigid flatfoot, depending on the stage of the condition. Conclusion from this work we can conclude that: Tibialis posterior tendone dysfunction is the main cause of acquired adult flat foot. Management of AAFF is according to the stage of the disease.
