Abstract

This study focused on the morphological features, estimation of the infection rates and the identification of the parasites communities that infect the toad Bufo regularis in El–Minia Governorate. The study concluded the existence of six species of parasitic helminths belong to six different genera infecting the toad Bufo regularis with the following ratios: Nematotaenia dispar (44.49%) – Spirura sp. (5.50%) – Rhabdias egyptia (30.9%) – Aplectana macintoshii (93.22%) – Paracosmocera mucronata (58.90%) – Neyraplectana sp. (1.27%). This study confirmed that the infection prevalence rates are much higher in the winter, than in the summer months. Although this is the first time to conduct such a preliminary study of parasitic helminths that infect amphibians in El–Minia Governorate, there are many research aspects and studies were not satisfactory covered and need further attention in future in this context. This study may lead to a better understanding of the rates of prevalence of these parasites in their amphibian hosts.
