Abstract Earthquakes in many areas have resulted in a great terror because of their huge destructive force causing loss in human life, structures and everything that man owns. Great effort has been given in reasonably estimation, predictions and mitigation of the risks associated with these potential losses. There is a lot of associated uncertainties because of the risk being affected by a strong earthquake. Accordingly, it is important to study the vulnerability of structures from potential earthquakes. In Egypt, most of residential buildings are multistorey reinforced concrete structures. Seismic vulnerability of multi-storey reinforced concrete structures in Egypt has been studied in this research. Incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) is performed on twenty R.C. framed structures buildings. All buildings are designed according to the Egyptian code for loads (2012)[1] under the effect of dead, live and seismic loads in zone 2 with design acceleration of 0.125 g. Nonlinear time historey analyses are performed on all models under the effect of set of real records for ground motions using SeismoStruct software. IDA curves are plotted to investigate the response of these buildings under the applied earthquakes considering five damage limits; Operational, Immediate Occupancy, Damage Control, Life Safety, and Collapse Prevention. Fragility curves are developed and disscussed in details. |
