Abstract

DM is a global health problem with a huge burden on the health care systems worldwide.
The goal in treatment of DFU is to provide standard and advanced wound care in order to achieve wound closure as soon as possible and to thus decreasing hospital stay and cost, and to provide care for ulcer prevention thus decreasing the rate of hospital admissions.
DFU most probably a result of high plantar pressure and the use of off-loading methods is very important step in improving the prognosis of DFU and preventing creating DFU in patient with high risk factors.
The use of most recent advanced adjunctive therapies has limited success on its own, but they have an exponential benefit for DFU and its complications when combined with the standard care of wound.
The need for multidisciplinary approach and team effort is crucial in managing the diabetic foot wounds and preventing forming new ulcers. Some cases need consultation by a team in order to give an appropriate treatment modality individualized for each patient.
Some DFU become very complicated that become impossible to be salvageable, in recent studies the decision of amputation still proves to be more beneficial.
