Abstract

Introduction: Staphylococci are type of bacteria that usually associated with infected indwelling medical devices, chronic infections and serious consequences which had a huge impact on clinical medicine. The most isolated species in these types of infections are Staphylococcus epidermidis and Staphylococcus aureus.
Aim of the Work: The present study aims to identify prevalence of Staphylococcus Aureus (S.aureus) resistance to penicillin and to evaluate the nitrocefin reaction in detecting β-lactamase production in (S. aureus) isolates. This would be compared to detection of blaZ- gene presence by real time PCR in S. aureus isolates obtained from various clinical samples.
Materials and Methods: The present study included 100 isolates of S. aureus that were recovered from various clinical samples submitted to the main Microbiology Laboratory in Ain shams university hospitals for routine culture and susceptibility testing in the period from January to April 2016. Results: One hundred staphylococcus aureus isolates were collected from different departments of Ain Shams University Hospitals during the period from January 2016 to the beginning of April 2016.The isolates were taken from different sites; 43 (43%) Pus, 28 (28) wound swabs, 26 (26%) blood, and 3(3%) from urine. Conclusions: There is high penicillin resistence in Staphylococcal aureus isolates obtained from various clinical samples of patients attending Ain shams university hospitals
