Abstract

CHD is one of the most common birth defects. It is considered a common cause of early death and its incidence in adults also has been increased. Pulmonary artery anomalies are relatively common and it may be a part of complex congenital heart diseases. CT angiographyoffers imaging of the heart with excellent spatial resolution and provides accurate details of great vessels. Moreover, it can aid in the diagnosis of certain disorders without the need for further invasive investigations such as conventional angiography. Furthermore, even in those disorders that require further investigations to reach a correct diagnosis, CTA can help in their follow up, assessment of prognosis and postoperative evaluation. Multi-slice helical CT scanners, using newly evolved hardware and software for radiation dose reduction, benefits not only in imaging the heart and great vessels with excellent spatial resolution, but also it allows scanning the whole thorax in either a single breath-hold in co-operative patients (over 5 years) or during quite breathing in children.
