Abstract

Reconstruction of facial animation is challenging but also life changing for patients. One limitation that has limited progress is the absence of a universal outcome measure, limiting multicenter comparisons and meta-analyses.
Facial paralysis is a relatively common disorder with much etiology. Some people are left with significant functional impairment and disfigurement, but others recover without complications. Moreover, the treatment of facial paralysis has challenged physicians for centuries. The restoration of facial animation is tailored according to the individual case presentation, etiology, patient desires and expectations, the surgeon’s expertise, and proper timing of intervention.
Hence, there have been different techniques for facial reanimation. The majority of our cases reported moderate degree of satisfaction and minor morbidity.
