Abstract

A sound knowledge of normal gross anatomical and histological feature, including possible individual variations, will greatly assist in recognizing different types of animals, thus providing more accurate information about them. Hence, this study made a collection of base- line data on the tongue of some species of family anatidae will provide a greater platform for an improved understanding of comparative biology of anatidae, will add to data base of avian biology in general, may lead to the discovery of novel structures and will be of taxonomic value. A more accurate appreciation of the structure of the oropharynx and tongue will provide a greater insight into food selection and feeling behavior of this bird and may possibly impact on feed formulation.
In the present study, the sample s of four species of ducks common teal, Eaurasian Wigeon, Northen pintail and northen shoveler collected from port said and Damietta markets.Gross photographs of the upper, lower breaks and tongues were captured by a digital camera to show the morphological differences between the four investigated species. Histological sections of different parts of the tongue were made and stained with haematoxylin and eosin and showed under light microscope , photos of various regions of the tongue were taken .the the doral lingual surface of the four species was numbers and karyotype of the four species were determind.
