Abstract

The present study was conducted to develop molecular genetic fingerprints for
identification and discrimination of 45 Date palm cultivars grown in Egypt, especially
Ismailia Govemorate. Through, the detection specific molecular markers or (unique
bands) of the Date palm cultivars are used, also, to estimate and elucidate the genetic
relationships among these cultivars. In addition, detection of specific molecular markers
seemed to be linked to some economically important characteristics in Date palm, i.e.
fruit size, fruit color, Moisture content, time of Marketing and Average production by
tree.
Simple Sequence Repeats (SSRs) marker was used to perform these aims. For
SSR markers the total number of amplified bands was 1067 bands (alleles) detected by
33 SSR loci and the average number of affected alleles was 12.82, all bands were
(scorable polymorphic markers) polymorphic represented a level of polymorphism of
lOO %. Some of SSR loci «DPALM_lOO, DP 151, and mpdCIR032))) were more
successful in identifying genotypes than the others where they generated higher number
of unique bands.
This represented a level of polymorphism among the studied genotypes.
The similarity coefficient reached a highest value of (0.259), between ”Bent-ashaa” and
”Hayani’ / Al-raghy and reached a minimum value of (0.041) between ”khalas’ and
”Hayani’? El Kasasen Results of the present study revealed, some SSR specificmarkers,
which seemed to be linked to the inheritance of some economically important
characters in Date palm cultivars.
