Abstract

Each stage of the life stages experienced by the individual characteristics and advantages which commensurate with the role they will play in life and of the most important stages is puberty or growth in adolescence stage. This stage has many requirement and also suffering from many problems as the problem of weight loss or thinness.
Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between underweight, physical health, and some psychological variables for female adolescence in the clinical from National Nutrition Institute.
The study was conducted in public clinics National Institute of Nutrition in Cairo on a random sample of 200 female adolescence in the age group of 13-15 years.
The biosocial characteristics, Medical history, 24 h Recall, food habits, Anthropometric Measurements and laboratory investigation were assessed and follow - up cases for a period of 6 months.
The results of this study summarized as the following:
1. characteristics of the healthy history of normal and underweight samples.
The results represent the characteristics of the healthy history. With regard to eat food during watching T.V, it was Found that about (57.53 and 85.83%) of normal and underweight sample respectively, whereas weren’t eaten food during watching television recorded (42.47and 14.17%) for normal and underweight sample respectively. Also for playing sports, it could be observed all the normal and underweight sample (100%) weren’t play sports. As for suffering from health problem before, it was noticed that the normal and underweight sample were suffered from health problem (2.74 and 18.9 % respectively) while the precentage for weren’t suffered from health problem was (97.26 and 81.1%) of normal and underweight sample respectively. It was found (2.74 and 40.16%) of normal and underweight sample respectively had underweight father, whereas (83.56 and 58.27%) of normal and underweight sample respectively had normal father but it was (13.7 and 1.57%) of normal and underweight sample had obese father.
2. Dietary habits properties.
It was observed that shows the characteristics of the food habits of normal and underweight samples. For main meal, the highest percentages of samples were having lunch as mean meal (100 and 92.13%) for normal and underweight sample samples; however (7.87%) for underweight sample were having dinner as main meal while there is no percent among normal sample. The majority of normal and underweight sample ate all meals (78.08 and 93.7%) respectively, (13.7 and 1.57%) didn’t eat lunch meal and (8.22 and4.72%) for normal and underweight sample respectively didn’t eat breakfast meal.
The lowest percentages of normal and underweight sample used a lot of amount of sugar (5.48 and 3.15%) and (86.3 and 30.37 %) used the little amount of sugar while (8.22 and 57.48%) used moderate sugar.
In case of drinking tea after meal, the highest percentages of the study sample drunk tea after meal (82.2 and 89.76%) for normal and underweight sample respectively while the percentage was (17.8 and 10.24 % ) for normal and underweight sample didn’t drink tea after meal.
The highest percentages of normal and underweight sample consumed lot of amount of salt (89.04 and 77.17%) respectively; however (5.48 and 19.69%) for normal and underweight sample respectively, used a moderate amount of salt and ( 5.48 and 3.15%) for normal and underweight sample respectively used little amount of salt. The majority of underweight sample preferred using pickles (64.75%) while the majority of normal didn’t prefer consuming pickles.
It was noticed (21.92 and 62.57%) of normal and underweight sample respectively preferred mesabek as favorite way for cooking , ( 24.66 and 0%) preferred soutee , ( 45.21 and 4.72%) preferred grill food and ( 8.22 and 32.28%) for normal and underweight sample respectively preferred fried food.
3. The means and standard deviations for the normal and underweight with respects to social variables.
The means and standard deviations for the normal and underweight sample with respects although the age average of normal sample and underweight sample was nearly similar, but father’s, mother, other source and total income of normal sample significantly exceeded that of underweight sample, but room’s number and family members were nearly similar, and did not reach to the significant level.
