Abstract

In the presence of overpopulation all over the world in the last decades, it can be found that it is necessary to construct new cities to comprehend this overpopulation. Hence, the electrical energy demand has been increased in the last decades. And from here, there is very important question about the possibility of feeding these cities with the electrical energy. This question can be answered by determining the amount and source of the energy required for these cities as well as determining the method of usage of this source to generate the required energy and the impact of feeding these new cities with the electrical energy on all the operation sides of the existed power system. This thesis aims to use renewable energy sources with conventional power generation (substation) to supply the new cities with energy requirements. A forecasting of the load during different stages of constructing the new city is made to assess the capacity of the new city substation using conventional techniques of load forecasting such as extrapolation of trend curves and modern techniques of load forecasting such as Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique. This thesis presents the use of wind energy as a renewable energy source with conventional power generation (CPG) to feed the new cities with electrical energy. An optimization of different wind generator modes to install wind farm at the installation site of the new city to be integrated with CPG is made. Also, the method of the wind farm integration with CPG is determined. This thesis studies the economic operation of this wind farm with CPG to show the impact of this integration on the economic operation of the overall system in case of the following two proposed scenarios: 1) When the whole wind farm is totally designed and integrated with CPG. 2) When the wind farm is designed and integrated with CPG step by step according to the peak load forecasted of the new city for every year. Also, it studies the impact of the electrical network interconnection of this wind farm on economic and reliable operation of the electrical network in case of the previous two proposed scenarios. The impact of electrical network interconnection of this wind farm on economic operation of the electrical network is studied to show whether the economic operation of the electrical network will be still achieved or not after the interconnection process. Also, the impact of this interconnection on the reliable operation of the electrical network is studied to show the impact of interconnection process on the electrical network reliability.
