Abstract Quality improvement has positive results on HD as it will achieve greater probabilities and success for change of knowledge and performance of nurses. Quality of client care has become an important factor in the health care area. There is no single definition of quality; the core of a definition is the balance of health benefits and harms to a client. This study aimed to improve the quality of nurses’ performance to meet haemodialysis clients’ satisfaction. A quasi experimental design were used in the conduction of the study at HD units in Ain-Shams University Hospital, Dar El-Shefaa Hospital and El-Khanka El-Markazy Hospital. The tools of this study included, 1) An interviewing questionnaire for nurses and clients, and questionnaire to assess nurses knowledge, 2) An observational checklist, to assess nurses performance and 3) client’s satisfaction tool. Results: findings of the present study, revealed that, the age for more than half of nurses their age ranged from 20-<30 years, more than two thirds was diploma, more than three quarters of them didn’t have any training before on HD. There were statistically significant relations between pre and post program related to nurses knowledge in renal failure, RF prevention, diet regimen, HD process, HD complication management, quality, infection control, management of pre-during and after HD sessions. There were statistically significant relations between pre and post program related to nurses’ performance in pre dialysis preparation, starting HD session, termination of the session and post dialysis. Regarding to the outcome of the study (client satisfaction), there were statistically significant relations pre and post program related to clients’ satisfaction from the nurses communication, performance, knowledge and skills. There were statistically significant relations between sociodemographic characteristics and nursing knowledge [the age from 35 > 45 years old, educational level especially in highest educational level]. There were statistically significant between socio-demographic characteristics and nursing management for haemodialysis problems especial with highly educational level. There were improvement of the nurses’ knowledge and performance after the program implementation. In conclusion the nurses improved their performance to meet HD clients’ satisfaction. Recommendation: 1) Developing a training program, for nurses of the HD units, about: A) the standard methods ofHD session preparation, starting the session with infection control measures, termination of the session and post dialysis. B) Increase the nurse’s awareness about standards of practice and Egyptian guidelines for HD nurses to be disseminated with explanation of these standards. C) Applying quality of nursing care standards for HD units by hospital authority to improve nurses’ performance. 2) Applying satisfaction sheet to the clients to know immediately the nurses’ weak points to improve their performance. 3) To improve nurses’ performance their knowledge must be improved through applying from A to Z materials related to RF and HD, written in Arabic language. 4) Improving nurses education and training by developing an- orientation program for newly staff nursing in HD units. |
