Abstract

Avian influenza (AI), commonly called bird flu, is an infectious viral disease of birds and often causing no apparent signs of illness. Avian influenza (AI) viruses spread to domestic poultry and cause large-scale outbreaks of serious disease. Some of these AI viruses have also been reported to cross the species barrier and cause disease or subclinical infections in humans and other mammals (WHO, 2014).
Most human infections with avian influenza viruses have occurred in people with direct or close contact with infected birds. Limited transmission from person-to-person has been documented rarely, after very close and prolonged contact with someone who is sick. Sustained human-to-human transmission with avian influenza has not been documented (CDC, 2015).
The current study was conducted to study the effect of implementing bird flue preventive home measures on knowledge and practice of poultry breeders in a rural community. The quasi-experimental research design (pre-post-test) was used in the study. The data collection took place from the first of March 2015 to the end of June 2015. The study used Systematic random sample of one hundred houses of individuals resident of poultry breeders living in Teta village affiliated to Menouf district, Menoufia Governorate.
