Abstract

Mandibular fracture is the one of the most common facial bone fracture;it is often treated by open or closed methods. For the open approaches, one can choose interosseous wires, external pin fixation and compression and non-compression plates. For the closed methods, one can treat conservatively with a soft diet, or apply intermaxillary fixation with arch bars or ivy 1oops.Restoring a premorbid occlusion is the common aim for restoration of masticatory function. This study prospectively evaluates 81 patients having 126 mandibular fractures. The patients were admitted to Mansoura Emergency Hospital, Faculty of Medicine Mansoura University, from July 2014 to June 2015. The cases were collected during 78 working days at the hospital under supervision of the Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery department and treated by the maxillofacial surgeons of the department. In the study; the prevalence of mandibular fractureismore common in males than females, it is more in the age ranged between 17-33years.It is distributed over adult more than pediatric age.
