Abstract Investigetion of the n-hexane extract of Acacia ehembergiana (family Leguminosae) was resulted in the isolation of fatty alcohol fraction proved by GLC to consist of cosanol, tricosanol, tetracosanol, pentacosanol, hexacosanol, octacosanol, tricontanol and dotriacontanol. Fractionation of . acetone soluble fraction r,esulted in the separation of hydrocarbon fraction proved by GLC to consist of hexadecane, octadecane, eicosane, docosane, tricosane, tetracosane, pentacosane and hexacosane. The sterol fraction was a mixture of cholesterol, campesterol and stigmasterol . a-Spinasterol was also separated .The saponifiable fraction containing a mixture of fatty acids proved by GLC to consist of myristic, pentadeconic, palmitic, margaric, stearic, oleic and linoleic acids. Investigation of the ethyl acetate extract resulted in the separation of 5 flavonoids viz. diosmetin, taxifolin, kaempferol, myricetin, apiginin, in addition to 4 simple phenolic compounds viz . methyl gallate, gallic, flavan- 3-ol-gallate and galle catechin-3-gallate. These compounds have been identified by UV,MS and NMR spectral analyses . Acacia ehembergiana extracts were submitted to preliminary biological screening . |
