Abstract This was a prospective randomized study conducted on 133 consecutive patients who underwent isolated elective CABG at department of cardiothoracic surgery at Ain shams university hospitals. The aim of the study was to compare between two specific modalities of myocardial protection using either intermittent antegrade cold crystalloid cardioplegia or warm blood cardioplegia. The patients were randomized into two groups each was 53 patients, and each receive one of the two cardioplegic solutions. Our study demonstrated a significant reduction in release of myocardial biomarkers (CK, CK-MB, and Troponin I) with the use of intermittent antegrade warm blood cardioplegia. This finding indicates a reduction in myocardial cell injury with the use of warm blood cardioplegia as myocardial protection method. These results may lead to the following conclusions. |
