Abstract Two medicinal weedy species, namely; Apium graveolens L. (Celery) and Anethum graveolens L. (Dill) belonging to Apiaceae were selected for this ecological and pharmacognostical study. Plant samples (aerial parts and fruits) in addition to soil samples were collected from ten different sites representing different habitats in Damietta governorate. Due to the high economic potentialities of Apium graveolens L. and Anethum graveolens L. in particular the medicinal value, the present study was undertaken to add more information on its associated flora as well as volatile oil yield, composition and the percentage of phenolics and flavonoids content of the aerial parts and fruits in relation to soil variables. This will be useful to the optimal feasibility of the cultivation of Apium graveolens L. and Anethum graveolens L. as medicinal plants. Results will be important as an indication of the potential economic utility of them as a raw material for useful pharmaceutical phenolic and flavonoidal compounds as well as oil component, such as Limonene. |
