Abstract It is well known that the thermal stability of polymers has given a great deal of attention for many years. On route to achieve thermally stable polymers is through copolymerization of the primary monomer with traces of a comonomer. The present work involves preparation of, N-(2-methyl-4-nitrophenyl) acrylamide (PMNA) and N-P-tolylacrylamide (PTAA) homopolymers and copolymers of N-(2-methyl-4-nitrophenyl)acrylamide (MNA) and N-P-tolylacrylamide (TAA) with methyl methacrylate (MMA). The thermal stabilities of the homopolymers and copolymers were investigated. Thermal degradation of homopolymers have been studied in order to determine the nature of the degradation products and the activation energies of the degradation products were calculated. Chapter 1 of this five Chapters thesis , includes a literature survey on the mechanisms of stabilization and degradation of polymers. Chapter 2 discuss the preparation of monomers, homopolymers and copolymers under investigated. Analytical techniques and thermal methods of analysis were provided. Chapter 3, 4 and 5 include the product abstract from this study. |
