Abstract

The present thesis is divided into four chapters and a conclusion Chapter One: The Names and Iconography of Tutu.
The first part of this chapter deals with the names of Tutu. The etymology of the name and the different writing and forms of the name were discussed here. The earliest known appearance and the latest appearance of the name were also discussed in this chapter. The second part of this chapter deals with the Iconography of Tutu who was often depicted in a hybrid appearance mostly in the form of a sphinx with others human or animal elements.
Chapter Two: The cult of Tutu.
This chapter deals with the cult of Tutu in different sites following a geographical arrangement from the west to the south and the north of Egypt, starting with Isment el-Kharab (kellis) and Deir el-Hager in Dakhleh Oasis, then the the sites along the Nile valley as: Kalabsha, Philae, Kom Ombo, Esna, Thebes, Shenhur, Koptos, El-Qala, Tima, Fayum, Athribis, Abusir, Shedenu and Sais. The festivals and the priesthood of Tutu were also discussed in this chapter.
Chapter Three: Stelae and Statues of Tutu.
The third chapter deals with the function, the dating, the origin, the materials, the shape, the relief style and the inscription of Tutu’s slelae and statues. A detailed study of a number of these pieces were put at the end of this chapter.
Chapter Four: The Protective Roles of Tutu.
This chapter deals with the protective roles of Tutu according the ancient Egyptian beliefs. These protective roles of Tutu against all kind of evil were extracted through the studying of his titles.
The conclusion : The conclusion sums up the important results of the thesis.
The study included a number of 117 figures, a bibliography and a summary in Arabic.
