Abstract

Presently, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are widely used in many life fields, such as monitoring, researches, security, army, and industries. Therefore, WSNs are including many of the research points in their challenges and issues.Localization represents an important challenge in WSN because it is considered as an essential step in each network. Position detection of each sensor is the first step in each sensor network before the process of sensing, sending, and receiving the data. In addition, localization has more challenges like position accuracy, power consumption, speed of coverage, and total cost. Therefore, any proposed technique must consider these challenges. The base station and the deployed sensors must have enough data about the locations of all sensor nodes that base station uses in working area. The techniques of position detection in WSN called localization technique. In this thesis, two techniques to improve the position detection are proposed. They are called Communacation Range Distance Vector-Hop localization technique(CRDV-Hop), and Developed Genetic Algorithm Distance Vector-Hop localization technique (DGADV-Hop).The first proposed CRDV-Hop technique is based on the communication range of sensors to determine the distance by multiplying the minimum hop count by a percentage of communication rangeThe second proposed DGADV-Hop is based on average hop size. The genetic algorithm (GA) is used to enhance the localization accuracy of sensors in the sensing area, so that minimizes the error.A simulation is made by using MATLAB software to evaluate the operation of the proposed techniques. A comparison study is made between the proposed techniques and the related work. The comparison indicates the (DGADV-Hop) improved the location of sensors and it is better than (advanced DV-Hop), (CRDV-Hop), and (DV-Hop) techniques in all situations.
