Abstract

Age estimation plays an important role in both forensic medicine and clinical dentistry, as it helps to know the variations in degree of maturation. The method devised by Demirjian et al.,(11) is widely used because it rely on tooth development stages which is one of the most detailed and reproducible methods. The present study was done to assess dental age among a group of children in Tanta city by using Demirjian method. A sample of 400 children aged from 5 to 13 years old were collected from the Pedodontic and Orthodontic clinics, Faculty of Dentistry, Tanta University. All patients were in need for panoramic x-ray film during their course of treatment. The patients were selected according to the following criteria: Native Egyptian, Healthy without any systemic disease or growth disorders, All patients have complete presence of left mandibular permanent teeth (erupted or unerupted). Dental maturity was assessed according to Demirjian method, 1973.
