Abstract

The study of the flow and heat transfer of Newtonian and Non-Newtonian fluids is important for application in science, engineering, and technology problems involving petroleum industries; heat exchanges; solar energy collectors; power plant piping; waste water treatment; and cooling of nuclear reactors.
The main aim of the present thesis is to solve the Momentum and Energy equations for the fluids that flow in different geometry (rotating disk, Parallel plates, and circular pipes).
In this thesis; four different problems for non-Newtonian fluid flow are studied. Numerical methods of solution are used to solve partial differential equations (PDEs) that represent the velocity of flow and Temperature distribution based on the linearity status of these PDEs.
In the first problem, the steady hydromagnetic flow of a viscous, incompressible, and electrically conducting non-Newtonian power law fluid due to the uniform rotation of an infinite non-conducting disk in the presence of an axial uniform steady magnetic field is studied considering the Hall current and the ion slip. The governing non-linear differential equations of motion and the energy equation including the viscous and Joule dissipations are solved numerically using the finite difference approximations. Some interesting effects for the Hall current, the ion slip, and the characteristics of the non-Newtonian power law fluid are reported.
