Abstract Malnutrition is a broad term which refers to both under and over nutrition. Children are considered malnourished if their diet doesn’t provide adequate calories and protein for growth, or they can’t fully utilize their food due to acute or chronic diseases. Aim of the work: The present study focused on evaluating the prevalence and risk factors of malnutrition among children below 5 years attending outpatient clinic at Tamiya hospital (2014-2015). Patients and methods: The study included 400 outpatient children at Tamiya hospital. Patients were classified according to age into four groups; they include 263 males and 137 females, their age’s ranges from 1 to 5years. All patients were subjected to the following: History taking, complete clinical examination, measurement of weight, length and height, the following investigation were done to the studied groups: Stool analysis, CBC with differentiation and total serum calcium. |
