Abstract Abstract In the present study, a cognitive semiotic analysis of a corpus of twenty verses of the Glorious Qur’an was conducted in the light of Conceptual Blending Theory and Conceptual Metaphor Theory, using Brandt and Brandt (2010) model and zoltan kovecses (2010) model. The verses under study discussed social, cultural, economic issues in all communities. The detailed analysis has yielded the following finding: Firstly, conceptual integration or conceptual blending is the basic cognitive operation that readers and hearers use to grasp the meaning of Qur’anic verses as s semiotic genre. Secondly, people go through several mental stages to understand similes and metaphoric expressions, most of which people are unaware of. Thirdly, applying Brandt’s model (2010), it was found that similes go through a series of complex mental inputs. Fourthly, applying zoltan kovecses’ model (2010), it was found that metaphoric expressions are based on several linguistic as well as nonlinguistic bases. |
