Abstract

Obesity contributes to major causes of death and disability, including heart attacks, strokes, high blood pressure, cancer, diabetes, osteoarthritis, fatty liver, and depression. A permanent routine of exercise, eating healthier‚ and consuming the same number or fewer calories than used will prevent and help fight obesity. Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medical technique of inserting needles at particular points on the body to balance the opposing forces of yin and yang and the smooth flow of Qi. Acupuncture points can be stimulated by heat ( moxibustion) , pressure ( acupressure) , electrical currents (electroacupuncture) or laser light (laser acupuncture). Laser acupuncture provides a noninvasive and low risk alternative to needle stimulation . Laser can replace needles in the treatment of functional disorders. As a painless modality of acupuncture laser is accepted by children and other sensitive patients. Laser acupuncture also provides excellent possibilities for clinical studies on acupuncture.
