Abstract

Bladder cancer is an abnormal development in bladder tissues, which turn normal cells into cancer cells. Bladder cancer considered to be one of the most common malignancies in the world particularly in Egypt because the spread of schistosomiasis. So, there was an urgent need to find natural compounds that prevent or limit the occurrence of bladder cancer where chemical treatments have bad side effects and different organs of the body may not be borne by the patient. Allyl isothiocyanate (AITC) is one of the compounds found naturally in cruciferous vegetables such as cauliflower, broccoli and cabbage. AITC has a significant impact on preventing bladder cancer or its development, in addition, it is non-toxic to normal cells. It found that about 90% of this compound is absorbed into the body and is concentrated in the bladder cells at a concentration about ten times higher than the concentration in plasma and 14-74 times higher than the concentration in any organ after oral administration. Conclusion:Research has shown the effectiveness of AITC at a concentration (17 microliter) on the shrinkage and death of tumor cells in rats with bladder cancer (group 4), without damage to normal cells. The results demonstrated the possibility of considering AITC a retardant material and deadly material to cancer cells and can therefore, used as food additives to reduce the appearance and progression of bladder cancer and possibly contribute to the treatment.A concentration of (17 microliter) to bladder cancer rats led to a reduce in oxidative stress through inhibition of the high levels of (MDA, NO, H2O2) and restoring activity of antioxidant enzymes (GSH,SOD,CAT,GST) and inhibiting P53 gene expression which promote the formation of bladder cancer.Recommendation:Research is recommended to eat vegetables containing allyl isothiocyanate such as cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli.Use AITC as food additives to help in prevention of bladder tumors or growth inhibition in collaboration with chemotherapy, which can use a lower dose to avoid side effects.
