Abstract Cell therapy&anti-oxidizing agents hold a great promise for the repair of injured tissues and organs, including the peripheral nerve injures. The aim of the present study was to demonstrate the effect of transplantation of Schwann cells and its combination with melatonin or resveratrol in an attempt to overcome the multiple factors that limit axons growth after PNI. The rats were categorized into five groups:the first group was normal group, the second group was sciatic nerve injured non-treated group in which rats underwent the nerve injured procedure, the third group was sciatic nerve injured Schwann cells-treated group in which sciatic nerve injured rats were treated with intralesional injection of Schwann cells (in a dose of 3 x 105 cells/rat) post injury, the fourth group was sciatic nerve injured Schwann cells and melatonin group in which sciatic nerve injured rats were treated with intralesional injection of Schwann cells (in a dose of 3x 105 cells/rat)post injury followed by intrapertoneal injection of melatonin at a dose of 100 mg/kg,the fifth group in which sciatic nerve injured rats were treated with intralesional injection of Schwann cells (in a dose of 3x 105 cells/rat)post injury followed by intraperitoneal injection of resveratrol at a dose of 100 mg/kg. |
