Abstract

Chalcogenide glasses have been widely studied for their various and unique optical properties which make them very
promising materials for use in optical and micro-optical elements
such as gratings, optical recording media, fibre optics and
waveguided devices in integrated optics since they exhibit a good
transparency in the infrared region, especially at the
telecommunication wavelengths at 1.30 and 1.55 μm.
The purpose of this thesis is to study the structural and
optical properties of Se80Te20-xSnx (where x= 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 at.
%) thin films. The amorphous materials of bulk samples of the
Se80Te20-xSnx glasses were prepared by the usual melt-quenching
technique. The films of the Se80Te20-xSnx glasses were deposited
on to ultrasonically cleaned glass substrates by thermal
evaporation technique under vacuum of 10-5 Torr.
Chapter 1: gives an introduction of the present work and
literature review of the previous work.
Chapter 2: gives the theoretical approaches to the present
work.
Chapter 3: present some details of sample preparation, vacuum
evaporation techniques, characterization of samples, such as
structural, electrical and optical properties.
Chapter 4: presents physical behavior of Se-Te-Sn bulk system
and then its structure investigations and thermal properties
structural.
Chapter 5: gives the optical and electrical properties of the films
of Se80Te20-xSnx (x=3, 6, 9, 12 and15 at. %).
