Abstract Concretes containing natural pozzolanic materials are used extensively throughout the world for their good performance and for ecological and economic reason. The research presents investigation of how the usage of Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBFS) and Broken Bricks (BB) on the performance of concrete at elevated temperatures. In this study, an attempt is made to achieve this objective by preparing ten mixes: three mixes for each series and control mix (25 MPa.) for a concrete specimen (15*15*15 cm3). W/C ratio and water content were kept constant for all mixes at 0.48 and 168 L/m3 respectively, incorporating GGBFS as cement replacement (C series), GGBFS as fine aggregate replacement (S series) and BB as coarse aggregate replacement (G series). For C & S series replacement percentages were 10, 20 and 30% by dry weight of cement in addition to 10% silica fume by weight of cement. For G series replacement percentages were 10, 20 and 30% by dry weight of combined coarse aggregate. Which were then subjected to heating levels of 300°C, 600°C and 800°C. After cooling procedure [Air cooling, Water cooling (quenching), and Heat–cool cycling (Durability)] the residual compressive strength, scanning electron microscope (SEM) studies, mass loss, absorption and moisture adsorption of concrete were determined, the compressive strength was determined using an unstressed residual compressive strength test. |
