Abstract

Cardiotocography is the simultaneous monitoring of fetal heart rate and uterine contractions. Certainly, incorrect interpretation of CTG and unsure action taking lead to potentially high risk of harm to woman and fetus. Intervention programs for the CTG were introduced in order to improve the interpretations, thus lowering the number of newborns with acidosis and decreasing the rate of cesarean sections as well. A recently published paper concluded that the main reason for the poor outcomes lies in the generally poor standard of CTG interpretation and the contribution of human factor as well. Therefore, more intensive training on CTG interpretation should be performed or more cost-effective solutions by developing an expert system should be used.
