Abstract

This study aimed to : study the effect of priming and non priming seed on germination characters and seedlings parameters.
-To study the performance of Egyptian clover cultivars on seed germination characters and seedlings parameters. To study the effect of salinity stress on seed germination characters and seedlings parameters. To study the effect of the interaction among priming seed, cultivars and salinity stress on seed germination characters and seedlings parameters. Methods and Results:The experiment was arranged in factorial experiment in (RCBD) in Giza Seed Testing Laboratory to study the response of germination characters and seedling performance of some Egyptian clover cultivars under priming and salinity concentrations. Half of each cultivar was primed. Fifty seeds of uniform size in each treatment for each cultivar were germinated on a filter paper in 9 cm diameter Petri dishes in four replicates and moistened with salinity concentrations in a growth chamber at 20 ±1оC for 8 days. The results showed a significant effect of priming on all studied characters. Studied Egyptian clover cultivars on averages of all studied characters. The highest averages of these characters were produced from sown Helaly or Serw 1 cultivars followed by Gemmiza 1 cultivar while, the lowest from sown Sakha 4 cultivar. On contrary, highest averages of seedling height reduction were produced from sown Gemmiza 1 cultivar. Concerning salinity concentrations effect, the results showed a significant effect on averages of all studied characters. Increasing salinity levels from 0, 60, 120, 180 and 240 mM NaCl reduced all studied characters except seedling height reduction which was increasing.
1-The results showed that all studied characters significantly affected the interaction between priming seed and cultivars. The highest values of these characters were produced from Serw 1or Helaly expet seedling height reduction was produced from Gemmiza 1.
2- The results showed that all studied characters significantly affected by the interaction between priming seed and salinity levels. The highest on priming seed and control except seedling height reduction.
3- the results showed that significantly affected by the interaction between cultivars and salinity levels. The highest from Serw 1or Helaly in control.
4- The results showed that significantly affected by the interaction among priming seed, cultivars and salinity levels. the results showed that significantly affected by priming seed and sown Gemmiza 1 or Helaly under control in germination index and germination speed. Srwa 1 in seedling vigour index, root length and seedling height.Gemmiza 1 in seedling height reduction in 240 mM.Conclusion:It could be concluded that for maximizing Egyptian clover germination characters and seedling parameters under salinity stress. It could be achieves by sown Serw 1or Helaly These cultivars were more tolerant to salinity and recommended to use in breeding program for enhancing Egyptian clover production in Egypt.
