Abstract This study aimed to : This investigation was carried out at the Experimental Farm of El-Kassassin Hort. Res. Station, Ismailia Governorate, Hort. Res. Inst., Agric. Res. Center, Ministry of Agriculture, Egypt. During the two successive winter seasons (2010/2011 and 2011/2012), to investigate the effect of irrigation water requirments (1150, 23000 and 3450 m3/ fed) and different sources of fertilization {mineral NPK at rates 300, 300 and 200 kg/ fed respectively ; organic (poultry manure (PM), Compost (C) and Cattle manure (CM) at rates (10, 15 and 20 m3/ fed), respectively} on the vegetative plant growth, flowering characteristics and chemical constituents of marigold (Calendula officinales L.) plant under sandy soil conditions. These treatments were arranged in split plot design with three replicates. Irrigation water quantities were arranged in the main plots and the fertilization treatments were randomly distributed in the sub plots. The obtained results could be summarized as follows :- 1. Irrigation treatment by (3450 m3 water/ fed) recorded the maximum values of plant height, number of branches/ plant, both fresh and dry weight of plant, the highest fresh weight of inflorescences / plant at different picking stages, increasing number of inflorescences, the fresh weight of one inflorescences, The maximum fresh weight of ray flowers per inflorescence and per plant, increased the yield of dry ray flowers per plant and per fed, The values of N, P and K percentages in leaves and carotenoides and olenolic acid in flowers, increasing chlorophyll a, b and total chlorophyll as well as carotenoids in leaf tissues as compared to other irrigation treatments. On other hand, the lowest values of plant growth parameters were obtained with (1150 m3/fed) water in both seasons. 2. Fertilization with poultry manure (PM) at (10 m3/fed) increased significantly plant height, number of branches per plant, both fresh and dry weights, the highest fresh weight of inflorescences/ plant at different picking stages, increasing number of inflorescences, the fresh weight of one inflorescences, The maximum fresh weight of ray flowers per inflorescence and per plant, increased the yield of dry ray flowers per plant and per fed, The values of N, P and K percentages in leaves and carotenoides and olenolic acid in flowers, increasing chlorophyll a, b and total chlorophyll as well as carotenoids in leaf tissues without significant differences with mineral fertilizer. On the other hand, application of Cattle manure (CM) at (20 m3/fed) recorded the lowest values of all plant growth traits in both seasons.3. The interaction treatment between (3450 m3water/fed) and fertilization with poultry manure at (10m3/ fed) gave the maximum number of branches/plant and both fresh and dry weights, the highest fresh weight of inflorescences/ plant at different picking stages, increasing number of inflorescences, the fresh weight of one inflorescences, the maximum fresh weight of ray flowers per inflorescence and per plant, increased the yield of dry ray flowers per plant and per fed, increasing the percentages of N, P and K in leaves and carotenoides and olenolic acid in flowers, chlorophyll a, b and total as well as carotenoids in leaf tissues in both seasons. |
