Abstract

This thesis consists of two parts: The first includes the study of two modes of timing with scintillation detectors, and the second represents a method for leading- edge timing with coaxial Ge (Li) detectors (CF) pickoff timing with to be In part I, a model is proposed for constant fraction scintillator-photomultiplier detectors; based on a statistical model for leading-edge (LE) time-resolution. The (LE) timing model is restricted to narrow energy-window of spectrum and it has modified in the present work; by adding a term responsible for dynamic range effect on time resolution. This is simply treated, using geometrical methods, and that leads to an energy-dependent leading edge FWHM.
The present models of constant fraction and leading- edge time resolution are both tested, and many essential features are extracted such as: prompt time-response, the dependence of FWHM on dynamic range of pulse heights and on energy deposited in scintillator; also the effect of delay-time on optimum time resolution in constant fraction of pulse-height trigger (CFPHT) and in amplitude-rise time ”Walk” component -compensation ARC) timing.
