Abstract This thesis comprises three chapters: Chapter 1: includes a literature survey concerning the previous work on quinoline derivatives and their metal complexes. This survey clarifies several points; (a) Quino- line derivatives and their metal complexes have received a relatively little attention when compared with the corresponding pyridine derivatives. (b) Few metal complexes of monodentate quinoline derivatives; e.g., methyl-, and halogenoquinolines have been reported but no systematic study is available in the literature. (c) A lot of work is required for quinolincarboxylic acids and their derivatives. For instance, the copper(I) and gold (III) complexes of these ligands have not yet been mentioned. Moreover these acids may act as mono-, or bidentate ligands. In the latter case they may be N,O- or 0,0-coordinated ligands. Thus we select some 2-, and 4-quinoline derivatives which act as monodentates and 2-, 3-, and 4-quinolinecarboxylic acids in addition to methyl and ethyl esters of 2-quinoline- carboxylic acid (quinaldic acid) to study the cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II) and Zn(II) complexes of 4-methyl- quinoline and methyl and ethylquinaldates and copper(I) and gold(III) complexes of the acids in addition to the above ligands, in order to verify some factors mentioned in the aim of investigation. |
