Abstract The present thesis includes a detailed kinetic study of the reaction of potassium phenoxide, 1-naphthoxide and 2-naphthoxide with 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene in methanol at different temperatures Ar0 + Cl NO2 ArO NO2 + Cl The rate of each reaction was measured as afunction of the- concentration of the corresponding free phenol. In the kinetic investigation, the rate was followed by potentiometric determination of liberated chloride ion after time intervals. Chapëer I includes a general sur.ey on the important factors affecting the rate of nucleophilic substitution reactions. , especially those of haloarornatic compounds. Chapter II deals with the experimental details of the preparation and purification of the materials and solvent used. The apparatus used and the rate measurement procedure are also described.Chapter III is concerned with results and discussion. The results of the kinetic runs under different conditions showed that the reaction followed a second-order kinetics. For the reaction of each of the aryloxides, a linear rela—. |
