Abstract

The present investigation covered a total of eighty eight medical specimens collected from post operation wounds of inpatients in different departments at Zagazig Univeristy Hospital, Zagazig, Egypt. The Results indicated that Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria represented 42% and
58% respectively of total bacterial isolate. According to conventional methods,
42% (37 out of 88) of the isolated bacteria were identified as Staphylococcus aureus.
Antibiotic susceptibility profile of isolated bacteria against 17 different antibiotics using disc diffusion method revealed that all S. aureus tested strains showed recognizable resistance to methicillin (100%) and thus defind as MRSA strains and 37.8% resistant to vancomycin and suspected as VRSA strains. Meanwhile, 86.5% of tested S. aureus strains were imipenem sensistive .
Two isolates encoded as S. aureus 5 and S. aureus 21 were selected as multi-resistant strains. MICs and MBCs values of vancomycin antibiotic against the two selected strains S. aureus 13 & 46 were 40 & 512 µg/ml and 64 & 640
µg/ml respectively. Regarding imipenem, recorded MICs and MBCs for both strains were 40 & 256 µg/ml, respectively. In a combination treatment between Vancomycin and Imipenem antibiotics synergetic effect on the two strains were observed.
